
Paragon Robotics, a leading engineering‑solutions provider, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a prestigious contract by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to design and build an innovative Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) test system. Developed in collaboration with a Virginia‑based robotics firm, the system addresses the critical need identified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for an industry‑standard validation test for PPE.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential for protecting healthcare personnel (HCP) from potential contamination during patient interactions. In critical trauma‑care scenarios, a breach in PPE can expose HCPs to life‑threatening infections. Recognizing this risk, NIOSH emphasized the need for an industry‑standard validation test to verify PPE effectiveness and to support the development of advanced protective gear.
Paragon Robotics is proud to support this effort by designing and constructing a cutting‑edge PPE test system for the CDC. The system will help the medical community rigorously evaluate PPE efficacy and may contribute to a new ANSI specification.
Working closely with CDC design requirements, Paragon Robotics and its partner developed a sophisticated robotic test system that accurately simulates the anthropometry and motions of a human arm and hand. The system can replicate the full spectrum of patient‑care and surgical procedures, providing comprehensive testing scenarios. It includes an adjustable fluid‑dispensing module that accommodates a range of viscosities representative of normal body fluids. The solution integrates mechanical, electrical, and software engineering expertise, with the user software and graphical user interface (GUI) developed entirely in‑house by our skilled team.

After successful design, testing, and validation, the modular system was expertly disassembled, shipped, and reassembled on the customer’s site by Paragon’s field‑service engineers. Comprehensive user training was provided to ensure seamless integration and optimal operation of the PPE test system.
