The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is a set of US government regulations that control the export and import of defense-related articles and services. ITAR compliance is crucial for electronics manufacturers, as many products containing certain technical data or components can be considered defense articles under these regulations.

ITAR requirements for electronics manufacturers

• Registration: If your company manufactures, exports, or temporarily imports defense articles or furnishes defense services, you must register with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC). Registration is an annual requirement and must be renewed every year.
• Export Licensing: ITAR requires manufacturers to obtain an export license before exporting any item or service listed on the United States Munitions List (USML). This includes technical data, software, hardware, and defense services related to ITAR-controlled items.
